A New Hotel and a Second Trader Joe's: McKinney's Retail and Hospitality Boom Continues
By BrivexMedia · October 7, 2026
A new 137-room AC Hotel by Marriott is set to open in McKinney in mid-November, with bookable dates beginning Nov. 15 alongside its ground-floor restaurant, Good & Proper Wood Fired Bistro. The hotel's opening is timed to the new commercial terminal at nearby McKinney National Airport, giving visiting travelers a hospitality option close to the city's first scheduled airline service.
The hotel is only the latest addition to a steady run of retail and restaurant openings across McKinney this year. A second Trader Joe's location opened May 7 in the Eldorado Neighborhood Shops, marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, giving the city's west side a closer grocery option. In September, KFC opened a test restaurant in McKinney as part of its new "Open House" concept, piloting breakfast service, table service, an expanded drink menu, and additional tenders and sauces ahead of a possible wider rollout. A Potbelly sandwich shop is also expected to open in the city later this year.
Community news outlets covering the city have tracked more than a dozen additional business updates across central, east, and west McKinney so far in 2026, ranging from ice cream shops and coffee shops to dental offices, spas, and boutique retail stores — a pace of openings that reflects the city's continued population growth and its pull as a retail and dining destination within Collin County.
Taken together, the new hotel, grocery option, and restaurant openings point to a city whose commercial footprint is expanding about as fast as its residential one, with developers and national chains alike betting on McKinney's continued growth.
