Heavy Rain Forces Fort Worth ISD to Relocate Meacham Middle School
By BrivexMedia · October 7, 2026
Fort Worth Independent School District officials said this week that portions of Meacham Middle School have been rendered unsafe for occupancy following heavy rainfall, forcing a temporary relocation of the campus while the district assesses and repairs the damage.
District officials said the decision was made out of caution after inspectors flagged structural concerns in part of the building tied to water intrusion from recent storms. Students and staff are being moved to a temporary location while repairs are carried out, and the district said it is working to minimize disruption to the school year.
The relocation adds to a broader conversation in North Texas school districts about aging facilities and their ability to withstand increasingly intense rainfall events. Fort Worth ISD, like many large Texas districts, has a mix of older campuses alongside newer construction, and officials have previously flagged deferred maintenance and infrastructure upgrades as an ongoing budget priority.
The district said it would provide updates to families as the assessment and repair process continues, and that it does not yet have a firm timeline for when students will be able to return to the original campus. Parents and staff have been directed to the district's communication channels for updates on the temporary location and any changes to schedules or transportation.
